Located in Vrindavan, Shahji Temple was built in 1860 by the devoted brothers Shah Kundan Lal (Lalit Kishori) and Shah Phundan Lal (Lalit Madhuri) from Lucknow (Oudh). Deeply immersed in devotion to Shri Priyapritam, they were scholars of Urdu, Persian, and Hindi and composed devotional Raasleelas and bhajans to please Shri Radharamanji. The temple took eight years to complete. The grand red sandstone entrance, known as Chandrapole Gate, leads to a courtyard adorned with Italian marble floors, fountains, and balconies. Built entirely of Italian marble, the temple reflects a blend of Greek, Mughal, and Hindu architecture, reminiscent of LucknowтАЩs Imambara. The veranda features rare 13-foot-high twisted marble pillars and life-size statues of eleven sakhis, along with Nawab Wajid Ali Shah depicted in devotional service. The famous Basanti Room (Rituraj Bhavan) contains 15 Belgian glass chandeliers, intricate mirror work, and gold-plated d├йcor. It opens only twice a year. The temple complex extends to the Yamuna River and continues to serve Shri Radharaman Ji and Shri Nitai-Gaur with devotion.
